AWS Outposts in Egypt

Cloud Power, Data That Stays Home

Your Data Has to Stay in Egypt. Now What?

If you’re a bank, fintech, insurer, brokerage or any business regulated by the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) or the Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA), you already know the rule: certain data has to be hosted inside Egypt. For many teams, that’s where the cloud conversation ends.

But what if your developers need AWS, with the same services, tools and speed they’re used to, and the regulator needs your data at home? You don’t have to pick one. That’s exactly where AWS Outposts comes in.

AWS Outposts, in Plain Words

AWS Outposts brings AWS to you. It’s a physical rack of AWS hardware, owned and managed by AWS, installed in a datacenter here in Egypt. Your workloads and data run on Egyptian soil, while your team manages everything from the same AWS console they already know.

The cloud experience stays the same. Only the address changes.

Sounds Simple. It Isn’t.

AWS delivers the rack. Everything around it is your responsibility, and that’s where most of the work lives:

  • The right datacenter. Not every facility can host an Outposts rack. Space, floor loading, cooling and physical security all need to be validated before anything is ordered.
  • Power you can rely on. The rack has specific power requirements. The site has to deliver them, with redundancy, and that must be confirmed upfront, not on delivery day.
  • Dual ISP leased lines. Your Outpost needs a constant link back to its AWS Region. One line is a single point of failure, so two redundant leased lines are the safe way to go.
  • Local gateway equipment. Firewalls and routers connect the rack to the internet and to your local datacenter network, so your systems and users can actually reach it.
  • Routing done right. Protocols like BGP and OSPF have to be set up between your infrastructure and the Outposts equipment. Small mistakes here mean dropped services or traffic going where it shouldn’t.

Each piece depends on the others. Miss one, and the whole project waits.

Why Day One Matters

An Outposts rack is a serious investment, and mistakes around it get expensive fast. A rack arriving at a site that can’t power it. A leased line delivered weeks late. A network that has to be redesigned after go-live. Each one means idle hardware, missed deadlines and compliance timelines slipping.

The projects that go smoothly are the ones planned properly before the rack ever leaves the warehouse. Site readiness, connectivity and network design all lined up from day one.
